DIY SEO: The Do It Yourself Search Engine Optimization Series

DIY SEO: The Do It Yourself Search Engine Optimization SeriesDon’t really get SEO?  Not sure where to start?

Have you read some information about SEO, but still don’t really feel like you understand it?

Here’s your chance to peer inside the world of SEO and get a closer look at how search marketing works.  It’ll be like watching Battle: Los Angeles except without the explosions or aliens or interesting plot.

At the Christian SEO Guys blog, one of our purposes is to help Christian ministries and organizations to better utilize search engine optimization so they can better fulfill their ministries for Christ.  We see that as our ministry and are excited to be able to play a supporting role for so many Christian ministries around the world.

We know that search marketing has a big impact on ministries, but SEO can be pretty confusing if you are not familiar with it.  Even if we list the various aspects of SEO or mention possibly strategies, it can feel rather intimidating and overwhelming.  So, in the coming weeks we want to take you through the process from start to finish (not that it ever really ends).

A Method for the Madness:
One of the tricky aspects to this idea is that how you go about performing SEO for a site can be different depending on the type of organization / goal of the optimization and Christian SEO can relate to churches, international ministries, local and national businesses, etc. all with different goals.  So, with each post, our plan is to have an introduction to the topic and then a series of links to different types of organizations.  Each link will take you to the information about that topic for that specific type of organization.

So, if you are a national ministry, you would see the main post for the day’s topic, read the introduction, and then click the link for national ministries and read the rest of the information as it pertains specifically to how that aspect of SEO is done for a national ministry.  We hope this format will make the information more relevant to your specific situation and less confusing for everyone.

SEO's We Want YouSEO’s We Want Your Participation!
We know that everyone has a slightly different take on SEO.  Some have a radically different way of doing things.  As SEO’s we also all have probably found different strategies and methods that work best for our situation or personality type or are just come creative ideas we’ve come up with.  The more input from SEO’s the more beneficial this information will be.

So, if you are an SEO, please share your ideas, comments, experiences, disagreements, and tips in the comments for each post.  If you would like to participate by posting some articles yourself, that would be great!  Just let us know that you would like to post some articles and we’ll work out the details.

So, keep your eye out for the upcoming DIY SEO articles.

  1. Nice post. What has really worked for us is a) optimizing the title page, b) having a good page heading, c) using alt tags for images, d) using a correct robots.txt (to my surprise many sites don't have it or have it wrong!), and e) last but not the least, optimizing on page load times. I have captured my findings here: http://tinyurl.com/3k9a3x5

    Hope this helps everybody.

    cheers,

  2. Looking forward to reading this series. Hopefully I'll learn a few new tricks to apply to my blog.

I've actually stopped "trying" to do "do SEO." Instead I've just focused on writing to humans instead of trying to tailor my posts to SEO.

Having said that, I'm still a relative novice when it comes to actual SEO practices. I know a little here and there.

    Cheers!

  3. Excited about the series. I've done a lot of research and website tweaking but still consider myself a novice in the SEO world. Need good answers to making the best site for SEO so humans can find me and also for the humans once they get there!

  4. This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!

  5. Good post! I have a random question for you. How do you get your blog indexed by bing? I have a related web blog.

  6. Hey Charlotte,

You can get indexed through one of two methods. 1. Submit your site manually at http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx. 2. Get other sites which are already indexed in Bing to link to you. When Bing revisits those sites, Bing will follow the link on their site and find your site.

  7. SEO is about getting your website to the top of the search engines in order to grow your business. By using the right SEO techniques, you will have your website move up in the rankings when a person does a search for whatever you are promoting. While basic SEO can be time consuming in the early stages, the results are worth the effort and set the stage for more advanced future work. Thank you very much for your ideas to post comments. The contest was really very interesting. I am really thankful to you for providing this unique information. Please keep sharing more and more information ……

  8. I'm about to delve into this series. I've had websites for years but I've never did any specific SEO. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Hello Kurt, now every SEO must change their strategy. Because now they have to focus on their content mainly. Many of the link building methods are considered as spam by the Google and the thing which is left is the content. Now everyone must focus on their content and their content must be unique and attractive, only in such condition the growth of the website is possible.

  11. Hey Kurt,
What changes do you made in your strategy????
What are the new things or strategy which you have used now in your work??

  12. How about inviting some "Born Again Christian" SEO experts to share their Christian testimony as well as their SEO ideas and post their website link so that should we be interested in hiring them to help us we can do so. My reason for suggesting this is that I have been burned by unethical SEO people. We as a "Mission" driven Christian marriage counseling ministry LOST over $12,000 in a 5 month period by dealing with unethical, unskilled, untrustworthy SEO "experts" who have zero Christian ethics. If you are a true "Christ follower" and Competent SEO guy/gal, I'd like to talk to you. RoyMilam@marriageministry.org
