Google Launches Voice Search

First Google started completing our searches for us so we didn’t have to type the whole phrase.  Now, you don’t have to type at all.  Just click and speak.

To use voice search just go to Google, click the microphone icon in the bar, and speak.  Pretty simple.

Maybe it’s just that I’m really, really lazy, but my first thought was “What? I have to click something?” :)  But seriously, this is pretty cool.  I don’t know that I’ll use it because I’m a pretty quick typer and I’m just used to typing.  But I can definitely see where this would be helpful if you weren’t a good typer or aren’t very good at reading and writing, especially children.  It would also be good on mobile.

All About The Chrome
The only down side is you have to be using Chrome.  According to Stat Counter, Chrome is the #3 (19.4%) in the browser race behind Internet Explorer (43.9%) and FireFox (29.3%).  Google has been aggressively marketing Chrome and gaining in market share and I’m sure offering voice search only on Chrome works well with their efforts.  Voice search is also available on mobile with Google’s mobile app.

So, go give it a try and let us know what you think.

What do you think?

Will you use voice search?

  1. Pretty cool! Firefox is my default browser and I, too, type fast so I doubt I'll use it on a regular basis. But I tried it out and it works pretty well!

  3. This, as I think, would prove a great success in the record breaking history of Google that it is launching voice search. It will give Google a great edge in comparison to the other browsers that are commonly available to the users of the internet.
